Mama

I know you gave it all away
Mama, I know this
you don’t have to say it
Mama, I know you wanted more,
you left your past all by yourself
you knew that there was a way
Oh, gosh Mama you tried to dig a trench
to escape the real
Mama I watched as you acquiesced
I saw you kiss the hand, the one that struck
I listened as you placated the sharpest of tongues
I waited for you to defend your life, as it was flitted away
Mama I know you gave it up, it was what you were taught to do
Mama I am just like you
