Morning Glory

After another fiery night
of cradling you and
watching you
fight your demons

I kiss you
in the first light of day
wanting to vanquish
your doubts and fears

In our fortress loft
above the roar of
the teeming
and luminous city

Love is alive
in spite of our
relentless enemies
and brutal miscalculations

You cling to me
angelic head on my chest
our legs entwined
skin to skin

I press you closer
you cling harder
sweet purple music
softly plays

First shadows
approach my teary eyes
and I am
speechless

And not worthy
to witness the
beauty I am
beholding
