THE MOON WON’T BE DARED

The monster has a name
The monster has a face
Striding over the tender fields of my soul—
You keep the monster in your heart
You cannot set him free
He runs your mind
Holds your body in the mirror
When is he you? When are you he?
I don’t believe in monsters, but
Here you are
Maybe I’m your monster, too
Maybe we’re joined at the hip, heart, umbilicus
We are one monster, twirling before the sky, laughing at stars,
Daring the moon to cut us apart
The moon won’t be dared
She’s too beautiful in her silver glow
How we love her joyous remove
Up there alone,
Graced by the Universe to
Wax and wane
While we never come or go
Only cling madly to each other
